1. The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme

The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) is the leading champion of entrepreneurship in Africa, and it was founded by African investor and philanthropist, Tony O. Elumelu. Its objective is to empower women and men across the continent, catalysing economic growth, driving poverty eradication and ensuring job creation. TEF believe that the private sector’s role is critical for Africa’s development and that the private sector must create both social and economic wealth.

In 2015, the Foundation launched the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, a $100 million commitment by Tony Elumelu in order to empower 10,000 African entrepreneurs over 10 years. Building on the Programme’s success and its unique ability to identify, mentor and fund entrepreneurs across Africa, the Foundation is increasingly sharing its robust delivery platform and working in partnership with institutions such as United Nations Development Programme, the African Development Bank, the International Committee of the Red Cross, GIZ, and United Bank for Africa Plc, to create meaningful and permanent impact across Africa.

2. WACCI-DAAD 2022/2023 Scholarship Applications (Extended Call)

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) in partnership with DAAD is inviting applications for the MPhil in Seed Science and Technology programme. Successful applicants will enrol in January 2023 and will comprise the ninth cohort of MPhil Students.

*This Call is an update of the in September 2021 published Call for In-Country/In-Region scholarships at WACCI (Ghana) with an original starting date of the programme in August 2022. The start of the programme was postponed by WACCI to January 2023. For this reason, the application deadline has been extended and the Call has been updated. The DAAD scholarship will cover tuition, stipends and accommodation for a two-year Master of Philosophy (MPhil).

Important Dates and Admission Process

Your admission process will go through the steps below. Please take note of deadlines.

❶ Complete an online form on the University of Ghana Graduate Admissions Page before April 20, 2022.

❷ WACCI to submit shortlisted candidates to DAAD by May 12, 2022

❸ DAAD will directly contact shortlisted candidates

❹ Shortlisted candidates are to submit their applications via the DAAD portal by June 15, 2022

❺ Scholarship awardees to receive notification from DAAD in September 2022

3. Africa Elite Scholarship Programme 2022

Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) is offering twenty scholarships to African lecturers (doctoral studies are prioritized) who are interested in pursuing master’s or doctoral studies in Taiwan beginning in September 2022.

The Taiwan MOE has established this scholarship programme in order to help Africa cultivate high-level professionals and to raise the scope of academic exchange.

Deadline: 31 May 2022

Participating universities: Tamkang University, Yuan Ze University, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Dong Hwa University, National Tsing Hua University, National Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University, National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei Medical University, National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences, Tunghai University, National ChengChih University, Kaohsiung Medical University, and National Cheng Kung University.

Eligibility criteria: Candidates must be employed as lecturers in public or private universities or colleges in African countries.

The following are not eligible to apply:

        ▷ A Taiwanese national or an overseas Taiwanese student;

       ▷ A person who already has and is continuing to maintain student status at any university or tertiary college in Taiwan or a person who used to study in Taiwan as exchange student or double major. This restriction does not apply to a student who will complete a degree and graduate that year. They may apply for a Taiwan Scholarship to pursue a higher degree;

      ▷ A person who has already studied in Taiwan for a degree at the same level as the one in which they intend to enroll;

      ▷ A person who has held an Africa Elite Scholarship Programme Scholarship for over three years;

      ▷ A person who has received any other scholarship or subsidy from any education institution in Taiwan.

Benefits: The scholarship offers a monthly allowance of NT$25,000 (R13, 247.09), which covers tuition and miscellaneous expenses (such as insurance, Internet fee, dorm accommodation)

Please note that all other expenses not indicated above are NOT provided by this scholarship and successful scholarship applicants will have to make provision for these costs. It is recommended that scholarship recipients budget between 680 EUR and 880 EUR per month for living in Taiwan.

4. Sabancı University Scholarships

There are various scholarships awarded to students at Sabancı University (SU) in Turkey as outlined below.

Graduate Scholarships: Scholarship evaluations for the candidates are made during the acceptance of their SU program. Graduate scholarship recipients are proposed by the Admission Jury based on students’ academic history, then evaluated by the related Graduate School Administrative Board. Continuation of the scholarship depends on the decision of Faculty according to GPA.

Students accepted to SU master or doctorate programs can be offered one of the scholarships below for 2021-2022 Academic Year Spring Term (EMBA, MBA-P, MiF, MSBA-N, IT, ETM-NT, DA-NT, CYSEC-NT and BP are non-scholarship programs).

Full Scholarship: It covers full tuition fee exemption, monthly net stipend and dormitory support for the declared period below. 

Regarding the monthly stipend payment and dormitory support,

For Master: 4,000 TL/10 months + Dormitory (room for double) for 10 months

For PhD : 5,000 TL/12 months + Dormitory (within the bounds of possibility single room, if occupied, room for double) for 12 months

Full Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship and Dormitory Scholarship: Master or doctorate students are provided “full tuition fee exemption” and “dormitory support (for master students, room for double for 10 months, for PhD students, with in the bounds of possibility single room, if occupied, room for double for 12 months)” are allocated.

Students, who have dormitory support but not prefer to use this support, will be given 750 TL monthly stipend

Tubitak BIDEB Scholarship: Master or doctorate students who have full scholarships in domestic are provided “full tuition fee exemption” and “dormitory support (for master students, room for double for 10 months, for PhD students, within the bounds of possibility single room, if occupied, room for double for 12 months)” are allocated.

Students, who have dormitory support but not prefer to use this support, will be given 750 TL monthly stipend.

Project Scholarship: Students working within the context of research projects are provided monthly stipend. TUBİTAK, SANTEZ and outsources (at least tuition fee must be covered) scholarship graduate students are provided double room dormitory for 10 months. (for PhD students, within the bounds of possibility single rooms are provided for 12 months)

Students, who have dormitory support but not prefer to use this support, will be given 750 TL monthly stipend.

Other Scholarships: In every year, one of the PhD students is assigned with Aysegul Arsoy Scholarship- who has a great contribution at the stage of the foundation and envisagement of the university. This scholarship includes tuition fee exemption, monthly 5.250 TL stipend payment for 12 months, the dormitory fee exemption in a 1-person room.

Within the scope of “Işık İnselbağ Finance Chair” within the Graduate School of Management Sciences; “Işık İnselbağ Scholarship” is assigned to a successful PhD student at the Graduate School of Management. This scholarship includes tuition fee exemption, the dormitory fee exemption in a 1-person room and monthly cash payment of 5.250 TL for 12 months.

İsmail Serhat Oğuz” scholarship is assigned to a successful Economics master student at the Graduate School of Social. This scholarship includes tuition fee exemption, the dormitory fee exemption in a 2-person room and monthly cash payment of 4.000 TL for 10 months.

5. Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

Value & duration: $70,000 per year (taxable) and is offered for two years (non-renewable).

Anticipated 2022-2023 competition launch: end of April 2022

Eligibility Criteria: The fellowships are open to Canadian citizens, Permanent residents of Canada, and Foreign citizens.  The Areas of research include Health research, Natural sciences and/or engineering, and Social sciences and/or humanities.

6. MATSUMAE International Foundation Research Fellowship Program 2023

As outlined below is about the MATSUMAE International Foundation Research Fellowship Abbreviated as MIF.

Important Dates: The application period will be from April 1, 2022 to June 20, 2022 (Japan Standard Time).

Fellowship Period: Three to six months between April 2023 to March 2024. Please indicate the length of your stay and its commencing and ending month in your Application Form (Form #1). (E.g., Six months from September 2023 to February 2024).

Eligibility Criteria:  Applicants of non-Japanese nationality who meet all the following criteria are eligible to submit application documents.


❶ Applicants must obtain an invitation (acceptance) letter from a host institution in Japan prior to application.
❷ Applicants should not have past or current experiences of staying in Japan (other than short-term stays such as for sightseeing or conferences)


❸ Applicants must have an occupation in their home countries, return there upon completing their fellowship tenure, and should contribute to development of their own country.

❹ Applicants must hold Ph.D. (Doctoral degree).

❺ Applicants must be at the age of 49 years old or younger at the time of application.

❻ Applicants must have sufficient the English or Japanese languages ability.

It is important to note that the fields of research such as natural science, engineering, and medicine are given first priority.

Applicants are free to choose a host institution in Japan (universities, national research institutions, or the equivalent facilities in private sector) to carry out their research. Please be sure to obtain a letter of acceptance from the host institution prior to application.

7. Education USA Opportunity Funds Program

The Opportunity Funds Program aims at broadening outreach to youth and underserved audiences. The Opportunity Funds Program was created to support high achieving low income students and give them access to further their education in the United States.
